I personally prefer the classic 'girly' genres like Romance, Comedy and Fantasy I chose to watch these films as I feel I can escape from the real world of negativity, job stress and failing relationships, I feel every person watches a certain type of film depending on their mood and how they want to view the world. It is known if a woman is going through a breakup she will watch the most romantic film with the happiest ending in order to give them hope. Generally comedies are watched to bring a positive feeling to the viewer and maybe give them references back to the own funny positive moments in their life and I feel that if I study enough films from these genres then I could get the very gist of things in order to create the perfect jokes for a comedy or a eye watering romance within a two minute opening. Also I was thinking of moving onto the Horror genre, I have watched a lot of horrors and it is known the common sequences of a horror so I feel if I went into this genre then I could also give a good insight to what would happen within my film compared to the successful produced films which are earning millions.

Ideas

1. Title- One Day
Genre- Romance
Location set- Beach Perth, Australia
Time of day- evening (sunset)
Baseline of pitch- It starts with two characters in love on their wedding day the weather the environment is beautiful and shows the positivity and happiness of the characters. The shot moves then onto the after party and the couple sharing their first dance and is showing how happy they are, the shots show clips of different parts of the wedding day then at the final two minutes of the opening shows their life moving forward together. This happens in 'Bride Wars' towards the end of the film it goes through the process of the day and them getting ready for their weddings and the wedding day, then the after party where they share their first dance then finally moves onto the rest of their life apart from in the film it is based on two happily ever afters but for my story it would be based on one couple.
Titles- My title timeline would be based on 'Definitely, Maybe', 'The Last Song' or even using the titles based on 'Bride Wars' (Will be in separate posts)
Characters names- Emma played by Emily Goldsmith, Dan played by Gary Goldsmith
The others at the wedding would not be named in the title as I feel they aren't having direct scripting and not necessarily needed to be named.

2. Title- In the life of OZ
Genre- Comedy
Location set- Perth, Australia
Time of day- Ranged
Baseline of pitch- The scene starts with a family of 4 moving to Australia and the clip starts with the youngest girl in the family creating own movies showing their experiences from the house in England to Australia I feel this opening of the film would be better off starting with being filmed by the view of the daughter like in 'Paranormal Activity 3' and even though the genre is completely different it is easier to show the view and the emotion of the characters it will then moves onto the activities they get up to when first arriving meeting old friends, experiencing new things and starting a new life. In 'Just Go with It' they go on a trip to Hawaii and it has many different clips of their experiences and what activities they get up to in a new environment and I feel that I could use this to create a great perspective for my own ideas.

3. Title- Missing
Genre- Horror
Location set- Perth, Australia
Time of day- Ranged
Baseline of pitch- Opening consists of young boy laying on the side of the beach washed up from the shore or left for dead after being beaten up it then will cut to a family morning eating breakfast laughing having fun playing music, then it would cut to silence when there is a knock at the door with a policeman saying 'I think you need to sit down' and will then cut to the title. I would base this story line on the horror 'The Lovely Bones' I feel I could use this and create a good 2 minute opening of a feature film, my cousin has been playing keyboard for 3 years and I think I could us this to get my own intense piece created for the suspense during the opening.
Titles- Would be based on Taken or Psycho as its dramatic and can be used for this certain genre

4. Title- Throwback
Genre- Horror
Location set- Perth, Australia
Time of day- Afternoon/Evening
Baseline of pitch- The story would consist of an older woman who has recently moved to the area to avoid a stalking controlling ex who is now returning to finish the job when he tried to attack her 3 months previous. I would base this on the film 'Sleeping With The Enemy', I would use pan shots to show eeriness and use empty parts of the beach to show loneliness of the character. The main character would be glamorous and she has a high social status her ex would be the complete opposite dressed down, low key and not a high social status.
Titles- Would be based on Gossip girl with the platinum powerful colour

5. Title- Mindless
Genre- Romance
Location set- Perth, Australia
Time of day- Morning/ Day time
Baseline of pitch- It would be based on a woman who lives in Australia and has just been released from hospital after 'loosing her mind' and cannot remember a thing about her life, the people whom where previously in her life have been advised to meet with her pretending not to know her hoping that her memory will slowly come back. In my clip you would see her leaving the hospital seeing things she thinks she hasn't before and meeting the one true love of her life. This would be classed as a classic romance story and would be linked to either 'The Notebook' or '50 First Dates' as they both are classic love stories to do with the main character loosing their mind but ending up jogging their memory.
Titles- Would be based on The notebook
Characters- Mia played by either Nadine Overton or Emily Goldsmith, Daniel played by either Gary Goldsmith or Peter Overton.

Weather in other films

When watching films they use pathetic fallacy within them where they use the weather to show the mood of the characters or the situation within the film therefore I've been looking at many genres and looking at how they use the environment and mainly weather.

In 'The Notebook'  during the scene where they share a passionate romantic kiss and rekindle their love for each other the rain is used because at first they are arguing then they put all that beside and show their love in the most romantic way of expressing it. The rain is heavy but the sun is still in the sky making the scene light and positive, as you can see from the picture it is used in a romantic loving way, his picture was used in the poster but is taken from a scene in the film.
Nicholas sparks is the Author of the book 'The Notebook' and other romantic novels he composed such as 'The Last Song', 'Safe Haven' , 'Dear John', 'The Lucky One' and many others which have all been made into major and popular films.
These are the posters of the films which have came from books by the author Nicholas Sparks but the pictures are taken from scenes featured within the films themselves. They all have one scene in common and the weather is based in a sunny area by the beach or picturesque landscape and I feel that by my filming in Perth I could go down the romance route and use the beach environment to my advantage.

Several other films use pathetic fallacy in order to show the mood of the scene in other genres such as 'Psycho' (1960) in this scene the weather is dark and dim it shows Marion driving in the car reminiscing the conversation she had in her head. The scene is dark at the beginning but quickly moves onto the evening where you can see fog and mist in the windows behind her in the surrounding environment as the camera is focused on her for the ride. This film is a horror and throughout the film the story consists with being based on cold weather, also during parts where the audience is trying to be spooked they use wind through windows and in the area to build up tension. I could use this in Perth as they often get high winds which is over in a matter of hours so I could use this to my advantage and create a new idea in order to have the best possible outcome.

Another genre which uses weather to show the mood within the story line is comedy, films such as 'Happy Gilmore', 'Step Brothers' and 'Just Go With It' all use the weather to show happiness the sun is always shining and in most ways they use the weather in the script they comment on how lovely the day is or how beautiful the view is which passively shows the audience how the characters are feeling. In this screenshot you can see three of the main characters in the sun the area is beautiful and pristine, the lighting is bright even the sand is nearly white which is showing how positive and happy the environment is, I could defiantly base my ideas and story line around a scene like this as I would have the beautiful Perth beach to base my story on and the weather can be used to adapt my idea in every way.

 

 

 

Location

Perth, Western Australia

When planning my initial ideas I am starting with my location as in March I am going on a 3 week trip to Perth in Western Australia for a family holiday and I feel that if I film there I can use my location to my advantage as in most films they use exotic locations to grab their users and they use it in a variety of different genres, for example ‘The other woman’ uses the Bahamas for their plot line towards the end of the film (Romance, Comedy),  ‘Jaws’ is another which uses exotic locations for their plot, they use Long island, in New York and as most know Jaws is a Horror. So it just shows you can have any location and use it to your advantage, so I feel that I will be at an advantage if I get all my filming done in Australia and put all my ideas together.  

Perth is one of the most beautiful countries because of the natural landscape and how enjoyable life is there but you could also use that as an oxymoron because I could use the amazing, calm location but compose a horror story so it isn't expected by the viewers.

As you can see this is a picture I got off Google images from the Perth coastline looking out onto the ocean and because the area is so clear you can see the town on the other side of the coat, this location is 10 km from where I am staying so depending what genre I use I could open with  pan of the scenery to show details of the location. Most films open with showing either the scenery or the character; one example is 'Wild Child' this is a teen film which opens with a scan of the main characters bedroom and house where the first 7 minutes of the film is based. 

It can be seen as risky me filming in Australia as if i get a shot wrong or it doesn't work then I don't have the opportunity to go back and re-film or change the angle slightly, so I will have to be aware of what i am filming. I have thought about it in detail and I will film shots of random activities or sights i see everyday also with scripted scenes and planned, but also unplanned I will just film everything I see then go through what i have filmed every day so i can go back and analyse what I may have to do again.
